The former king of Siam met the army of Nai Klum, who surrendered without a fight. Since that day, the city in which they met was known as Thaprya (Prya’s Army). It was later changed to Pattaya (The wind blows north).
Pattaya used to be a small and quiet fishermen’s village, until the early 60s, when american soldiers arrived from Vietnam. After more than 50 years, the village turned into a thriving large city. You won’t find too many fishermen huts anymore, but will sure see a lot og hotels, malls and restaurants.
Today, Pattaya is mostly known for its nightlife. In the last few years, many family oriented attractions were built, like golf courses, go kart, a safari, bungee jump, horseback riding, scuba diving and more.
The north of Pattaya’s beach has the most attractions, while the southern area of the city is mostly for houses, hotels and restaurants.
